The Indian Institute of Welding (IIW India), a member society of the International Institute of Welding, celebrates its 50 years of eventful journey this year. To mark the occasion, IIW India is organizing the National Welding Seminar – the biggest All India annual event during the Golden Jubilee Year. The seminar will be organized in Kolkata on 15-17 December 2016 with the theme of “Challenges and Developments in Welding and Fabrication technology”.
As a part of the Golden Jubilee Year events, IIW India has conducted the Best Welding Engineer Competition at National Level. The preliminary round competition areas were Construction & Design of weldments, Welding Processes and Equipment, Materials and their behaviour during welding, and Fabrication & Application Engineering. Around 140 welding engineers across India from various industries took part in the competition. Sritharanandh, Solution Engineer at Kemppi India participated in the event and got selected as a one of the TOP 10 finalists. The final round will be held in Kolkata, India on 14 December 2016.
In addition, IIW India also organized the Best Welder competition. The preliminaries were conducted at the local branches of IIW India. The branch level competition was carried out in three categories: Best structural welder (SMAW-Plate-4G position), Best Structural welder (MIG-Plate-3G position), and Best Pipe Welder (SMAW-Pipe-6G position). IIW Chennai conducted this program at the demo centre of Kemppi India. The winners from branch level competition became eligible to take part in the National level rounds.
B.S. Durga, Welding Demonstrator at Kemppi India participated in the Best Structural Welder (MIG-Plate -3G position) category in IIW Chennai Branch level competition and got selected for the finals, held in Kolkata on 12 December 2016. The winner of the event qualifies to represent India at International Institute of Welding (IIW) China Welding Society (CWS) Arc Cup Competition 2017 which will be held in Shanghai, China in June 2017.
