Main challenge
Klöckner manufactures screening machines for all areas of business where solid mixtures need to be separated into different particle sizes. The material can be, for example, rubble, road salt or excavated soil. Screening machines are manufactured at five welding stations. The challenge with these large components is their height, which can be a major obstacle during welding.
Kemppi's solution
Klöckner uses two water-cooled FastMig X systems and one water-cooled FastMig M system. All welding machines are equipped with Kemppi’s SuperSnake sub-feeder which provides great work assistance and thus increases productivity. This unique equipment can bridge long distances of up to 30 m between MIG guns and wire feeders while working on various materials (Fe, SS, Al). Its sturdy and slim profile allows the SuperSnake to easily follow welders into the narrowest areas.
Klöckner uses 10-meter-long water-cooled SuperSnakes. Especially factories with heavy or medium-heavy metal working, shipyards, offshore industry, or installation and construction work are perfect places for using SuperSnake. It makes working on big components easy and flexible, because heavy wire feeders no longer need to be moved over long distances or raised when the welding location is high. Welding parameters can also be set with a remote control as well as with the SuperSnake. The welder doesn’t have to move between his welding location and the machine. “This saves a lot of time and of course reduces the strain on the welders”, explains Alexander Klöckner, CEO of Klöckner Siebmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG.
The Pulse-MIG process of FastMig X also contributes to increased productivity. This process saves about two hours per component since no subsequent cleaning is necessary after processing.
