Your equipment FAQ

What is the difference between Series 3, 5 and 8 Flexlite GX MIG welding guns?

All Flexlite GX MIG guns enjoy Flexlite features for user comfort and ergonomics as well as extended consumable life.

All Series 3 and 5 Flexlite welding guns are equipped with a Euro connector. For Series 5, an optional GXR10 remote control is also available.

Series 3 MIG welding guns have the best compatibility with other welding machine brands in addition to Kemppi.

Series 8 MIG welding guns are equipped with a Kemppi connector and work lights to provide better visibility in low-light working conditions.

What is the difference between different contact tips for MIG welding guns?

There are bore diameters with three different clearances, C1, C2, and C3, for each filler wire size. You can choose the most suitable clearance class for each filler wire material. For example, aluminum filler wire requires a bigger clearance than ferrous filler wires.

In addition, there are three material options: Standard, CuCrZr, and Life+.

CuCrZr lasts longer, especially in short and globular arc applications.

Life+ contact tip’s lifetime is the longest possible, especially in globular and spray arc applications.

Please refer to our Guns and Torches catalogue to see the table of recommended contact tips for each (base) material.

In which welding machines Kemppi Flexlite GX MIG welding torches can be used?

Series 3 welding guns can be used with all MIG welding machines that are equipped with a Euro connector.

Series 5 welding guns can be used with Kemppi welding machines that are equipped with a Euro connector and remote-control option. A Series 5 Kemppi welding gun can be altered to fit other welding machines equipped with a Euro connector by using the switch in the trigger module. Unfortunately, after this, the remote-control option cannot be used.

Series 8 welding guns are equipped with a Kemppi connector, and therefore they can only be used with Kemppi welding machines such as X8 MIG Welder.

What is the difference between a Euro connector and a Kemppi connector?

The Kemppi connector has improved contact and more data pins compared to the commonly used Euro connector.

How do I change the liner for a Kemppi MIG welding gun?

  1. Straighten the gun cable pack
  2. Remove the jacket nut from the Euro connector’s end by using a 10mm spanner
  3. Remove the retainer cone
  4. Remove the liner by pulling it by hand
  5. Install the new liner and check from the neck’s end that the liner has reached the neck all the way
  6. Remove the gas nozzle and contact tip to see the liner’s end
  7. Cut a steel liner with side-cutting plyers and file the end of the liner. Cut a Chili liner with a carpet knife. The cutting dimension is on the jacket nut.
  8. Install the retainer cone
  9. Install the jacket nut and tighten it firmly by using a 10mm spanner

How do I change the contact tip?

First, remove the gas nozzleThe contact tip can be changed by using an 8mm spanner. Remember to tighten the contact tip firmly.

How do I change the gas nozzle?

Most of the Flexlite GX MIG welding guns have a gas nozzle with thread fixing. Remove the old gas nozzle and install new one manually.

What is the difference between steel and DL Chili liners?

A steel liner is suitable for ferrous wire welding, both for solid and cored filler wires.

A Chili liner is a plastic liner and creates less friction against filler wires, and it is especially suitable for stainless steel and aluminum filler wires.
