Main challenge
Being a relatively young company, P&W builds its reputation by delivering the required quality on time and within budget. As fluid and gas pipes are exposed to high pressures, toxicity and flammability, it is crucial that the welds are welded properly by professionals. Taking the strict quality requirements into account, P&W was looking for reliable and efficient welding equipment that would enhance its professional expertise and could perform according to the varied needs of its business.
Kemppi's solution
Kemppi provided P&W with the ultimate pipe welding package comprising of FastMig X 450 with twin wire feeders, the MatchLog function and WiseRoot+ and WisePenetration welding processes. In addition, P&W invested on a MasterTig LT 250 for TIG welding.
According to P&W's entrepreneur and director Scott Woodman, FastMig X 450 has been extremely productive since its introduction to his workshop. A seasoned welder himself, Woodman noticed many positive characteristics in using the Kemppi equipment:
- All necessary functions are on the feeder panels for easy usability
- WiseRoot+ compensates for individual welding techniques to achieve high-quality welds
- WisePenetration is especially well suited for fill and cap runs with great results when using mixed and CO2 gases
- MatchLog enables changing channels on the fly, ensuring that tack welds are burnt in to avoid lack of fusion
In addition, P&W has been able to improve quality consistency at the workshop due to MatchLog's beneficial start-stop arc characteristics. This feature is especially vital when welding code quality pipe and pressure vessels, as the probability of welding defects gets higher every time welding is restarted. True risk management that extends from production to the end customer, wouldn't you agree?
